2011 Annual Meeting Wrap-up

We thank the 110 members, sponsors, and guests who joined us for our second Annual Meeting on October 6, 2011. The meeting was kicked off by a lively performance from Ballet Folklorico, followed by welcoming remarks from Chuck Bennett, President of the Salem City Council.

Executive Director Carrie Hoops was joined by Board Committee Chairs in presenting the business agenda and introducing the new Board of Directors.

Cynthia Cumfer, local historian and co-author of The Oregon Nonprofit Handbook, helped the gathering look back at the historic accomplishments of nonprofits in a presentation that focused on the role of nonprofits in advancing civil rights. Her presentation reminded us that nonprofits are an integral part of the American story. View her presentation here.

To help us “look forward” at the challenges and opportunities in the current nonprofit environment, Ruth McCambridge, editor-in-chief of the Nonprofit Quarterly, led the group in a mind mapping exercise that visually demonstrated the complex social, economic, and political forces that drive nonprofit work today. Ruth’s goal was to spark conversations about these challenges and opportunities. She encouraged participants to develop learning organizations that monitor the nonprofit environment and bring that information into the center of the organization for critical decision making.
