Protect the Work of the Nonprofit Sector in Any Fiscal Cliff Deal
There is a lot of information coming out of Washington DC that President Obama and House Speaker Boehner are on the verge of reaching a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff. Unfortunately, it is reported that part of that deal includes an agreement to impose new limits to the charitable giving incentive. We believe that such a limitation would not only create a disincentive to charitable giving, but disproportionately punishes states like Oregon, whose citizens give at higher levels than national averages. Unless the President and speaker hear directly from you immediately, the ability of charitable nonprofits to raise the funds they need to serve your missions may be sharply curtailed.
THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO:
Call the White House RIGHT NOW (202-456-1111) and give the operator this message for the President:
“The President’s limit on charitable deductions hurts front line nonprofits serving people in need. Taking away incentives for giving will do far more damage to communities and cost governments at all levels far more than could be gained by implementing a limit on charitable deductions. Don’t limit charitable deductions!”
Give your name, city, and state, and tell them what the charitable deduction means to the work you do or the services you rely on.
THE NEXT MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO:
Forward this message to everyone you know who cares about the work of your nonprofit, the services you provide, and the people you serve.
That means forward this email to all of your employees, co-workers, board members, volunteers, clients, people served, and colleagues with other nonprofits in your community.
The White House Comment Line operates from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm EASTERN. Call now and forward this message.
