Capacity building was at the heart of Carol’s work with Multnomah County as the director and deputy director of two departments, where she facilitated complex, multi-stakeholder projects, including the creation of the Oregon Community Health Information Network as a nonprofit collaborative that now provides health information technology and services to community-based clinics. Most recently, as Administrative Review Manager, Carol was a catalyst for significant organizational change including improving the delivery of county services and creating new avenues for leadership development. Carol organized and mentored a Leadership of Change group to expand innovative thinking and highlight successful innovations. Cliff Jones is a human rights activist with over 30 years experience in social services, community education, and human rights advocacy. He has experience as a frontline staff, supervisor, project manager, and executive director. He is co-founder of Tools for Diversity, a comprehensive curriculum led by a multi-cultural team that addresses problems caused by discrimination and prejudice and supports building culturally competent organizations.
Cliff's consulting services include skill-building for boards and supervisors, planning, mediation, workplace diversity, multicultural alliances, conflict resolution, and group facilitation. Kathy Kniep (NAO)
Kathy, a founding member of the Executive Transition Services (ETS) team, has over 20 years' experience in the nonprofit sector and derives great satisfaction from working with people in inclusive, empowering, and dynamic teams to create and implement strategies that benefit people, the environment, and our community. She recently served for over five years as executive director of the YWCA Clark County, a Vancouver-based social services and social change organization helping over 11,000 people each year, primarily victim-survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, and homelessness. Prior to that, she led several local nonprofits as an interim executive director with the ETS program. She also worked with a variety of nonprofit and government agencies as an independent consultant, facilitating strategic planning, executive transitions, public involvement, fundraising, and board development.
For over five years, she served as a program officer for the Neighborhood Partnership Fund (now Neighborhood Partnerships), which provides financial and technical support to community development organizations in Oregon. While living in New York City, she managed an employment training program for homeless women and was the managing editor of the Journal of Children and Poverty.
Kathy has served on a variety of boards and advisory councils, including as board president for a small organization with a mission to help kids keep themselves safe from bullying and domestic violence. She graduated from Miami University in Ohio, holds a master degree from Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, and completed the ten-month Leadership Clark County program in Vancouver.
