Alice Forbes, Operations Director & Financial Management Consultant

Alice Forbes, NAO’s Operations Director, brings over 20 years of experience working with nonprofit organizations. At NAO, Alice oversees all aspects of the NAO infrastructure, including finance, HR and administration. In addition, her work includes membership benefits, consulting projects, training presentations and responding to the NAO Helpline. Her recent consulting clients include the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation, the Community Food Security Coalition, Neighbor’s for Kids, and the Portland Development Commission.

Prior to joining NAO in March 2008, Alice worked for several Portland-based consulting firms, helping nonprofit organizations and government agencies build organizational capacity, from program and exhibit development to strategic and business planning. Her clients included the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), National Science Foundation, Christopher Columbus Fellowship Foundation, Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board, and many, many science centers and museums, including the Anchorage Museum Association and Seattle’s Pacific Science Center.

Before transitioning to consulting, Alice worked for numerous museums and science centers. Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Alice’s first nonprofit job was at OMSI (the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) cashiering in the retail science store and performing science demonstrations. She received an MA from the Cooperstown (NY) Graduate Program and a BA from Smith College.
