To all the dedicated, hard-working, and passionate people who are looking for a training to discover new horizons and stregthen advocacy skills when working with Immigrant and Refugee survivors. Expand your knowledge using a multi-cultural, holistic approach that will make a positive impact on Immigrant and Refugee families. Overview of the history and migration of Immigrants and Refugees to the United States and the multiple complex barriers that they face. IRCO-RIFS program will provide a program overview and best practices to overcome these obstacles. Learn the importance of language access as it relates to functional literacy, assimilation and issues with confidentiality within small tight-knit communities. Understand anti-immigrant sentiments and acquire skills to advocate for victims. Understand the difference between Cultural Competence VS. Cultural Responsiveness. Recognize the intersections of race, class and gender and how it affects communities of color.

Objectives:

Begin to understand the multifaceted complexities behind how community dynamics, stigma, shame, religion, children, immigration status and extreme isolation can work to keep victims from communities of color in unhealthy relationships.
